571,868. Pistons. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1943, No. 20475. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1942. [Class 122 (i)] In a piston of the kind having bosses, 26, depending from the head in spaced relationship to the skirt, an inturned rib 20 is provided at or adjacent to the end of the skirt. The rib 20 may be turned inwardly after forging the piston. The upper ends of the bosses may be connected by a rib 40 and cooling ribs may extend across the head between the bosses. Movement of the gudgeon pin may be prevented by plugs in its ends engaging the cylinder wall ; or by snap rings seated in recesses 36.
