Abstract
586,036. Cooling pistons. SPECIALLOID, Ltd., ROBINSON, A. S., and WILLS, H. W. June 7, 1944, No. 10942. [Class 122 (i)] In a piston having a cooling chamber 16 formed in the piston crown 1 by a diaphragm 5, both integral with the skirt 3, and fed with oil through a passage in the connecting rod, the diaphragm being provided with a bushed aperture in which a slidable member 10 is spring-pressed against the upper end of the piston rod, grooves 14 or the like distribute oil towards the peripheral wall of the chamber. The diaphragm may be dished and the wall finned.
