591,871. Pistons. WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS, Ltd., and HOWLETT, J. W. Jan. 25, 1945, No. 23995/44. [Class 122 (i)] A piston skirt 13 is formed of an alloy having a greater coefficient of expansion than the material of the cylinder and is provided with at least one longitudinal slit 15 extending throughout its length, and a non-split control ring 24 coacting with the machined periphery of a cylindrical flange 23 integral with the piston skirt 13 and having a coefficient of expansion less than that of the skirt and comparable with that of the cylinder. The ring 24 is located axially by a detachable spring ring 27. Specification 578,531 is referred to.
