Abstract

578,467. Pistons. LISTER & CO., Ltd., R. A., and MELLERUP. A. E. Aug. 18, 1944, No. 15792. [Class 122 (i)] Lubrication of a piston 12 reciprocating in a cylinder 13 so as to project beyond the cylinder wall at the incentre position, is effected by providing the high pressure face of the piston with part circumferential V-shaped grooves 14 of length about equal to that of the big end bearing. The ends of the grooves collect oil splashed from the crankcase, and transfer it during the ascending stroke of the piston to the high pressure surface 18 of the cylinder.
