[Class 122 (i)] - Lubrication of the high - pressure face of a vertical sleeve 11 of a reciprocating fluid - pressure engine is effected by providing the inner end of the sleeve extending into the crankcase 12 with a V-shaped external groove 16 of width at least equal to that of the big end bearings and having at or near the trough one or more holes 17 bored in the high-pressure face of the sleeve to feed oil splashed from the crankcase and collected by the groove to the sleeve bore.
