Abstract

987,199. Bearings. SULZER BROS. Ltd. Sept. 13, 1963 [Oct. 6, 1962], No. 36191/63. Heading F2A. A crank-shaft bearing of a reciprocating engine includes a bearing cap 7 pressed against a saddle 4 by thrust pins 8 bearing against the crank-case, at least one of the thrust pins being formed with a longitudinal bore for the supply of oil to the bearing. The bearing shells 5 and 6 are formed with an oil groove 24 and the upper shell 6 has holes 23 so that oil can pass from a groove 22 in the saddle 7. Groove 22 connects with ducts 21, bores in the pins 8, ducts 10 in the intermediate elements 11 and an S-shaped pipe 12 connected at the centre to an oil feed pipe 13. The pins 8 each comprise two parts formed with a longitudinal bore which are screwed one into the other. The oil pipe 12 may be replaced by a channel in the engine casing. The pins 8 may each comprise a closed chamber for the reception of a pressure medium to increase the length of the pin during a bearing prestressing operation.
