Abstract
911,180. Lubricating. SULZER FRERES S.A. March 10, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 8941/61. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVI] A supercharged two-stroke engine in which air is supplied through piston-controlled scavenging ports 5, Fig. 1, has at least one oil scraper ring 11 disposed at the lower end of the piston 2 and at least one ring 12 having a controlled air leakage path disposed above the oil scraper ring 11 and which does not reach the ports 5 at any point of the working stroke of the engine. The ring may have a controlled air leakage path in the form of peripheral grooves 21, Fig. 3, or grooves 23, Fig. 4, in both or either of the upper and lower plane surfaces of the ring 22. In another form of controlled leakage ring a normal double knife edge oil scraper ring 25, Figs. 5, 6 is provided with uniformly distributed grooves 26 in the lower knife edge to provide an air leakage path inwardly across the upper plane surface and outwardly through the oil apertures of the ring between the two knife edges to communicate with the grooves 26.
