Abstract

1,080,493. Pistons. TRW Inc. July 18, 1966 [Aug. 19, 1965], No.32258,166. Heading F2T. In a piston 10 comprising a head 11 having one or more piston-ring grooves 13, a pair of gudgeon-pin bosses 14 and a skirt 16 depending from the head, the skirt comprises opposed cylinder wall contacting outer portions 18 centred on a diametral line normal to the gudgeon pin axis and inner portions 17 located at the inner ends of the bosses 14 and joined to the outer portions 18 by curved portions 19. The bottom of the skirt may be scalloped. Peripheral slots (21, Fig. 6) may be provided in the bottom ring groove and a vertical slot (22) or inclined slots (24, Fig. 7) may extend from the slots (21) into the skirt 16.
