Abstract

967,767. Pistons. CUMMINS ENGINE CO. Inc. Sept. 6, 1962 [Sept. 14, 1961], No. 34149/62. Heading F2T. In a piston 10 comprising a crown 12 and a skirt 13 having a gudgeon pin bore 18 therethrough, the outer surface of the skirt comprises a substantially cylindrical intermediate portion 31 axially positioned within the transverse projection of the bore 18 and lower and upper end portions 34 and 36 tapering inwardly from the intermediate portion. The taper angles A and B are greater than the greatest angle to which the piston may be tilted in relation to the cylinder wall 11 so that the side thrust is confined to the intermediate portion 31.
