Abstract

1362262 Pistons WELLWORTHY Ltd 31 Jan 1972 [9 Feb 1971] 4236/71 Heading F2T A piston has a gudgeon pin bore 20 which is cylindrical except for a relieved segment 26 on one side only of a plane which contains the gudgeon pin bore axis 21 and is parallel to the piston axis 22. Preferably, the relieved segment is on the non-thrust side 25 of the piston and may extend over an angle of 60-80 degrees and be offset towards the top of the bore 20. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the bore extends through two gudgeon pin bosses 18 and the amount of relief in each bore portion is substantially constant in the axial direction of the bore 20. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the amount of relief (26a) in each bore portion increases axially towards the piston axis.
