Abstract

414,390. Pistons. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.- (Aluminium, Ltd.; Canada Life Building, Toronto, Canada.) Jan. 28, 1933, No. 2781. [Class 122 (i).] In a trunk piston, the minimum thrust face 23 is provided with a clearance which increases from the centre line of the face towards the gudgeon pin bosses, while the maximum thrust face 24 is of circular section or deviates therefrom to less degree than the minimum thrust face. The skirt may be tapered in either direction and the contour may be obtained by pressing an oval plug in the open end and grinding the skirt cylindrical. When the plug is removed the open end of the skirt and face 23 will spring to oval form and the upper part of the face 24 will remain cylindrical. The minimum thrust face has a T-shaped slot 22 which may be formed in a thickened portion of the skirt. Wedge shaped recesses may be formed in the skirt adjacent to the bosses.
