Abstract

467,845. Pistons. W. P. (LYMING- TON), Ltd., and HOWLETT, J. W. Jan. 11, 1936, No. 973. [Class 122 (i)] A tubular steel &c. skirt 2 is supported solely by arcuate strips 4 extending from its thrust faces and embedded in the cast metal of the bosses. The strips may be formed by pressedin portions of the skirt wall between incisions 3 and the upper edge or between parallel incisions. Alternatively the strips may be separately formed and welded or otherwise secured to the skirt, the portions embedded in the bosses being of tubular form and perforated for keying purposes. In a modification, Fig. 9, the bosses are connected by two strips 16 embedded in the bosses at 17 and provided with pressed-out portions 18 welded &c. to the skirt. Specifications 366,625, 426,190, and 460,321 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the strips may be formed by the cast metal of the head.
