[Class 122 (i)] In a piston of the kind in which the head is connected to the bosses by internal struts 12, the bosses being either integral with or separate from the skirt, two or more discontinuous circumferential slits 19, 21 in more than one plane are provided between the head and bosses. One or more slits 21 may be formed through the bottom of the ring groove 17, and a longitudinal slit 22 may extend from one of such slits to or near to the skirt end. One or more slits 19 may be provided through the wall of an oil collecting groove 16 or between this groove and the bosses. The piston skirt may be oval. Specification 376,404 is referred to.
