Pistons. - The skirt B of a piston is connected at one side to the crown 1 by two parallel webs 4, each of which carries one of the gudgeon-pin bosses 7. The latter are further connected to the crown by parallel webs 4<1>. The skirt may also be secured at the opposite side to the head by a tubular web 9. The skirt is divided into four or more sections by approximately axial slits 10, which are bridged for part of their length by tubular webs 11. The piston may be of cast-iron or aluminium &c.
