[Class 122 (i).] A piston provided with axial grooves s and cross slots d is constructed to lessen the flow of heat to the guide surfaces f, g thereof. The head is integral with the guide surfaces f which carry the gudgeon-pin bearings b strengthened by ribs i. Slots k are provided through the upper part of the wall of each groove. In a modification, similar grooves are provided at the bottom of the skirt. Holes additional to the slots k may be provided in the grooves s. In a further modification, oblong slots are arranged near the bottom of the grooves s which are shortened so that the lower end of the piston is unbroken. The bottom of the skirt may be made elastic by inclined slots. Specification 246,941, [Class 122 (i), Engine and like cylinders &c.], is referred to.
