Abstract

330,672. Day, R. E. March 23, 1929. Pistons; guiding means within cylinder.-In a light-metal piston of the type in which the gudgeon-pin bosses 12 are supported from the piston-head and the side thrust is taken by slippers 13, which are disconnected from each other and from the piston head, the slippers are connected to the gudgeon-pin bosses by integral inclined struts 14, so that diametral expansion of the piston head tends to draw the slippers inwards. The obliquity of the struts may be increased by lengthening the neck 17, or the obliquity may be diminished by spacing the points of attachment of the struts to the slippers further apart, the slippers being thickened between the points of attachment. The struts 14 may be curved in order to increase their flexibility.
