Abstract

306,228. Marks, E. C. R., (Bohn Aluminum & Brass Corporation). Dec. 15, 1927. Pistons. - In pistons with a head to which piston-pin bosses are connected by piers, and with a skirt having thrust faces arranged between the bosses such as described in Specification 268,399, the upper part of the faces are connected by struts of relative inexpansible material of low thermal conductivity such as " Invar " nickeliron alloy, and one face has a slot 19 between the struts. The piston-pin bosses are connected to the thrust faces at their lower parts by transverse horizontal ribs 15, Fig. 3, or transverse vertical ribs 15<1>, Fig. 6. Closed end slots 23, 23<1> are arranged at the side of the ribs. A slot 22 is arranged below the rib 15, Fig. 3, and a T- shaped slot 24, 22<1> is arranged below the rib 15<1>. The piers 12 carrying the bosses are reinforced by central pillars 20, and side pillars 21. The upper part of the skirt is insulated from the head by an air gap.
