Vacuum tubes.-Exhaustion of a thermionic valve is completed by means of a piece of a metal such as magnesium, placed on or near the plate electrode, which is heated by radiation from the grid, through which current is passed for this purpose. The valve is first preliminarily exhausted and sealed. No bombardment is necessary. The filament may be thoriated. Specification 130,039 is referred to.
