Vacuum tubes.-The individual characteristic curves of thermionic valves are made asymptotic to the grid-voltage axis by varying the electron path along its electrode system, Fig. 6, for example by varying the mesh e of the grid g or by varying the distance of the grid from the filament k or anode a. The slope of the characteristic curve should amount at zero grid voltage to approximately half the slope of the rectilinear portion.
