Abstract
251,611. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Mouromtseff, I. E.). April 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A discharge tube, such as a thermionic valve, having a metal portion forming part of the envelope, is provided with a split jacket, a reinforcing helix, or a removable reinforcing support for the metal portion so as to prevent collapse during evacuation. As shown, a split metal jacket 9 is slipped on an anode 2, and is surrounded by binding wires 14. The anode may be of spun copper having a thickness of 0.04 inch or less. A shielding collar 17 is mounted near the seal 3 between the anode and the glass portion 1 of the container. The anode is heated in an oven or by electron bombardment during evacuation.
