Abstract
329,854. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. Dec. 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes; metallic-v a p o u r apparatus; R÷ntgen-ray tubes. -- A discharge tube such as a valve, R÷ntgen-ray tube &c. is provided with an electron-emitting cathode in parallel with which there is connected a conductor which does not provide an electron emission but consists of a material capable of taking up residual gases or gaseous impurities at high temperatures. The conductor consists preferably of a material having a high specific resistance such as zirconium ; tantalum, molybdenum, titanium, chromium or aluminium may be used. As shown, a zirconium conductor 13 is mounted between the cathode supports 11, 12. A grid 6 is secured by means of a wire backbone 8. The invention is applicable to gas-filled rectifiers and to tubes in which the filling consists of a rare gas and a metal vapour such as mercury vapour.
