Vacuum tubes; metallicvapour apparatus; R÷ntgenray tubes. - The removal of residual gas or gaseous impurities in a radio valve, R÷ntgen-ray tube, or rectifier is facilitated by arranging within the tube. a member not acting as an electrode and consisting partly or wholly of zirconium, said member being so shaped and disposed that different parts thereof are maintained at different temperatures during the operation of the tube. The Figure shows a rectifier 3 having a filling of one or more rare gases and a metal vapour and provided with a zirconium wire 11 carried by a support 9 and extending partly into a Wehnelt cathode 8.
