Abstract

266,480. Masterman, A. T., Dec. 3, 1925. Vacuum tubes; low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-In valves for wireless transmission and reception and of the kind wherein a tube containing a rarified gas is provided with two electrodes B, D between which a high-tension discharge is maintained, and a coil F or the like is provided for directly modulating the discharge, the leads from the electrodes and from the coil are connected to an ordinarv valve cap H and pins I adapted to be inserted in an ordinary valve-holder. The tube may be of dumb-bell shape having a smaller end to contain the anode and a larger end to contain the cathode, the contracted middle part receiving the coil F. Neon and helium are the gases preferably used, but air or other gases or mercury vapour may be used. The anode may be of aluminium or magnesium. A shielding envelope G may enclose the tube. The coil F may be connected either to the aerial or to the anode of a preceding valve, and reaction may be applied to it.
