Abstract

232,201. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. April 8; 1924, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A cathode having a number of filament portions connected in parallel and mounted on two or more carriers is provided with one or more metal supports connected with intermediate points of the filament at the same potential. As shown in Fig. 1, V-shaped filaments 63 are mounted on two supports 60, 62, and the tops of the filament are connected by a support 61 secured by a wire 65 to a quartz tube- 64 spacing the supports 60, 62. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a filament 5 is wound helically around supports 6 - - 9; the supports 6, 7 are mounted on hoods 15, 16 which are sealed into glass tubes 17, 18 and connected with leads, and the supports 8, 9 are joined at the ends by members 10, 11, the member 11 being mounted on a support secured to a hood 12, and the member 10 engaging with a quartz rod 14 spacing the supports 6, 7. The supports 8, 9 are thus connected with parts of the filament at the same potential. The wire may be welded to the supports or may be wound in grooves. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also another arrangement in which two hair-pin filaments are mounted on U-shaped supports, and the loops are connected by a wire. Such a cathode may be mounted with a grid in an envelope consisting of a glass tube and a cylindrical anode sealed thereto. The anode and the hoods may be of chrome-iron. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
