Abstract

224,877. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Nolte, H. J., and Prindle, R. B.). Nov. 13, 1923, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes. - A c a t h o d e structure which comprises a pedestal 11, Fig. 1, of refractory metal such as tungsten, carrying an insulating anchor 14, is supported solely by the two leads 5, 6. The pedestal is clamped to the leads 5, 6 by metal p l a t e s 12 separated by mica and secured together by wire 13. The anchor consists of a quartz sleeve grooved to receive bands 15, Fig. 2, of refractory metal such as molybdenum, in which are held hooks 17 for the bights of the filaments 19, 20. A plate 22 welded to the pedestal is formed with a, lug 23 engaging with the anchor to prevent rotation. The filaments are connected in series by welding the ends to the leads 5, 6 and to a cross-piece on the pedestal. The leads are joined to cones 7 sealed into a re-entrant glass stem 4, and are provided with shields 9 for preventing ionic bombardment of the seals. Quartz sleeves 8 are mounted around the leads, and a glass sheath 10 surrounds the stem 4.
