Description

April 7', 1931. H. GoosKENS E'r AL MANUFACTURE OF ELECTRIC INCANDESCENT LAMPS OR SIMILAR DEVICES Filed March 25', 1930 sin EENRLTC'US GSKENS AND lEllETlElt LEYDTSNS, 03F TEKNDH'STEN", NETHERLMDS, Altl- SSGNBS Vf@ G'Emdl ELEURI UdPllTY, @F SHLENECTslDY, NEW YRK Application tiled Marcia 2li, i936, Serial'lo, 43%,@36, and in the Netherlands '.tlarcli all, 119%.
@ur invention relates to electric lamps and similar devices such as vacuum tubes, and
more particularly to such devices comprisingy Ihereinalter explained, and the other is disposed Within the outer bulb but outside oi tbe inner bulb. rlhe mount carries the necessary leading-in Wires tor these iilanients. llovvever, our invention is also applicable to electric lamps comprising other forms oit light sources, such as the tungsten arc, etc. lhe neck of the inner bulb is 'formed with a danger. During the sealingin operation, the mount and inner bulb are so supported that the tlange ot the latter is just vabove and slightly removed from that of the mount stern tube. rll`he result is that When the outer bulb is placed over this assembly, the neck thereoi3 may be simultaneously sealed to both lianges, thus producing an integral structure.
ln the drawing, Fig.. l is a vertical section of an incandescent lamp consisting o'l an embodiment ot our invention.
ln tbe drawing is shown a completed lainp comprising our invention and consisting ot the outer bulb l0, the inner bulb ll, and an axially disposed mount comprising the dared stein tube l2 which is made according to the process disclosed in Mitchell and White Patent leltif and carries the exhaust tube i3 communicating vvith the aperture lll. 'lhere are two pairs oil leads i4" and l5 respectively..
These aresealed 'iny the stern press 16, the former being connected to the larnent i7,
.and the latter to the filament i8, which are both supported in the usual manner by rnetal lioolrs carried by the central glass'arbor l9. Suitable insulating1 sleeves 2O of refractory material, such as igh-Inelting point glass, are provided tor the portions oil the leads l5 which are disposed in the region olf the lila ment l?. 'lhe leads l5 also pass through a clamped sealed glass portion 2l which is 4formed from a portion of the inner bulb l1 which surrounds the mount. yllie said inner bulb extends parallel vvith the inount and the neck thereof has a llange 28 similar to the K'iiange 2e of the stem tube. The neck also has an aperture 25 so that the outer bulb and inner bulb may be exhausted at the .saine time, through the exhaust tube 13 which is then sealed up. During the sealing-in operation the outer bulb lO is placed over the vertically supported assembly of inner bulb and mount, and the neck 26 thereof is fused to the danges 23 and 2l simultaneously.
What We claim is:
Y 1. An electric lamp or similar device comprising inner and outer bulbs and an axially disposed filament mount comprising a dared stern tube, the ornierextending through said inner bulb, the neck of said inner bulb being also flared and both oit said flares being parallel and integrally united to be neck of said outer bulb.
2.- .ln electric lamp or similar device comprising inner and outer bulbs, said outer bulb having a neck, an axially disposed filament inount passing through said inner bulb into the outer bulb, a tlared stem tube, the neck of said inner bulb being also 'dared parallel with the flare oi the stern, said tlares being integrally united tothe neck of the outer bulb, and a `tilarnent carried by tbe mount and located between' the inner and outer bulbs.,
3. An electric lamp or similar device cornprising inner and outer bulbs, said outer bulb having a neck, an axially disposed lilainent mount passing through said inner bulb into the outer bulb, a dared stem tube, the neck of said inner bulb being also dared parallel with the dare ot the stern, said flares being integrally united tothe neck of the outer bulb, and a pair oit filaments carried on tbe mount one Within the inner bulb and the other in the outer bulb.
ln testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification..`
