Abstract

947,015. Cold-cathode tubes. ELESTA Ltd. April 19, 1962 [Feb. 5, 1962], No. 15281/62. Heading H1D. A gas-filled valve comprises an envelope filled with a gas containing or consisting of hydrogen in which there is a cold cathode 15<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 1, and at least one anode 17, 18 in which the cathode 15<SP>11</SP> is elongated and comprises two parallel parts and in which the anode has its smallest spacing from the cathode at one end of the elongated cathode. The anode may also comprise two parallel portions. The cathode may be a piece of U- shaped wire or sheet metal. The filling may be pure hydrogen or hydrogen with the addition of one or more rare gases. The electrodes are mounted by insulating screens 16, 19 on a glass or ceramic plate 11. The anodes may have pieces of sheet metal, Figs. 2, 5 (not shown), or may be made entirely of sheet metal. The anodes may diverge from the cathodes towards the plate 11. The anodes are of the same construction and may be connected in parallel inside or outside the tube. The devices are suitable for voltage stabilization.
