Abstract
1,225,057. Glow discharge lamps. BURROUGHS CORP. 23 Aug., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 40378/67. Headings H1D. In a multiple cathode glow indicator tube comprising a gas-filled envelope having a viewing window and a base 24 and containing a stack of cathode electrodes 30 surrounded by an anode electrode including a solid plate portion 52 which is positioned behind said stack of cathode electrodes 30 remote from said viewing window, rapid ionization is promoted by a discharge between auxiliary anode and cathode disc electrodes 108 and 112 positioned remote from said viewing window. Plate 52 and mesh screen 54 forming the anode are secured between mica plates by tabs 58. The cathodes 30 are spaced by insulating washers 84 along support posts 60, made of ceramic or metal with a glass coating or sleeve, which are secured by welding or by eyelets 68 to the plate 52 and mesh 54. Leads pass from the cathodes 30 through a slot in the lower mica plate 44 to base pins 28. The auxiliary anode disc 108 is supported by a lead 104 adjacent a larger cathode disc 112. The polarity of the discs may be reversed. Anode connections are surrounded by glass sleeves 45. The gas filling may be argon or neon plus a small quantity of mercury which may be introduced with the other gases or may be liberated by heating a capsule 130.
