953,074. Cold-cathode tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 11, 1960 [Aug. 14, 1959], No. 2784/60. Heading H1D. In a cold-cathode voltage-stabilizer tube in which a layer 5 of the cathode material is provided as a visible layer absorbing at least 20% of transmitted light on an insulating wall, as shown the glass envelope 1, surrounding the discharge path, the cathode 2 consists of a metal plate in monocrystalline form, e.g. of copper or nickel, which have a cubic face-centred structure, the material being cut with their surface parallel to the (1, 1, 1), the (1, 1, 0) or the (1, 0, 0) crystal plane or tungsten which has a cubic space-centred structure. Using copper the insulating wall has an additional atomized coating of gettering material e.g. molybdenum (atomized from the anode 3 or auxiliary anode 4) or zirconium. The tube is filled with neon at a pressure of 40 mm. Hg.
