Abstract
345,080. Discharge rectifiers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13A, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. March 10, 1930, No. 7792. Convention date, March 27, 1929. Addition to 293,327, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.]. [Class 39 (i).] The gas-filled electric rectifying tube described in the parent Specification is modified by surrounding the cathode along its whole length, or along the greater part thereof, with an electrically conducting member whose section perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the incandescent cathode is closed, or is apertured only at a portion which is turned away from the anode. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the metal member 6 surrounding the cathode 5 has a longitudinal aperture at its lower portion, and its section in a plane through the axis of the tube and that of the cathode is shaped as a trapezium, the longer parallel side of which is directed towards the anodes 7, 8. A metal screen 9 between the anodes may be formed integrally with the member 6 by bending a metal plate to the requisite shape, the screen 9 being electrically connected to one cathode support 3 and insulated from the other 4. The anodes 7, 8 are preferably of carbon, and to prevent disintegration, their leading-in wires may be surrounded by sleeves 10, 11 of insulating material. The tube may be filled with argon, mercury vapour, or other gas.
