Thermionic detectors.-In a detector for use without a battery in the anode-cathode circuit, a cylindrical cathode 11 is heated by an internal filament 12 supplied from a transformer 13, and is surrounded by a grid 14 and a cylindrical anode 15, the bulb containing caesium vapour at a pressure of 0.02 micron of mercury or less. The cathode is heated to a temperature of about 700‹ C.
