Abstract
382,520. Thermionic valves. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. March 8, 1932, No. 6944. Convention date, March 24, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] Occluded gas is removed from a cathode bv bombardment by means of electrons emitted from a substance applied to another electrode such as the anode or grid. Barium azide may be attached to the inside of the anode which is heated by a high frequency field during evacuation so as to evolve nitrogen and leave barium. A positive potential is applied to the cathode and the anode is heated so that electrons are emitted from the barium. After the cathode has been freed from gas, the anode may be raised to a higher temperature so that barium is deposited on the cathode to form, after oxidation, an electron emitting coating.
