238,123. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Smithells, C. J. Dec. 18, 1924. Vacuum tubes.-In a thermionic valve operating with grid rectification and a filament voltage of less than 2.5 volts, the surface of the grid consists of a highly electropositive metal such as magnesium. The filament may consist of thoriated tungsten or of alkaline earths. A piece of magnesium may be attached to the outside of the anode and heated during the exhaustion process by electronic bombardment or by high-frequency induced currents; another piece of magnesium may be attached to the inside of the anode and evaporated in the same way, so as to form a deposit on the grid.
