Abstract

326,334. Mullard Radio Valve Co., Ltd., and Krol, B. Feb. 28, 1929. Vacuum tubes. - Thermionic cathodes or heaters of equipotential cathodes are formed by binding together a bundle of parallel fine tungsten wires by a wrapping of fine tungsten wire. A bundle of five wires may be held together by a close helical wrapping, the wires and wrapping being copper plated before assembly and oxidized before or after assembly. A coating of alkalineearth metal oxide may be produced as in Specification 274,233 by vaporizing the metal on to the cathode. The final heating of the filament to produce a satisfactory coating is sufficient to remove occluded gases, which are absorbed by magnesium or other getter. The copper plating may be omitted, the tungsten being oxidized.
