Abstract

175,514. Tatton, J. Jan. 17, 1921. Jacks.-In a ratchet jack, the member carrying the lifting-pawl is acted on directly and indirectly by the actuating-lever. The pawl-carrying member 33 is slidably mounted in a recess in the jack casing and is maintained in contact with the head 42 of the lever 43 by a spring 34. A link 49 connects the member 33 to a pivoted member 47, which has a projecting part 45 bearing against the head 42. The lifting-pawl 39 and retaining-pawl 51 are provided with pins which engage the bent ends 62, 63 ,Fig. 2, of spring arms 60, 61 carried by a shaft having a laterally projecting arm 64. When the shaft is turned so that a spring pawl 66 mounted in the arm 64 engages the notch 67, the lifting pillar 23 is raised when the lever is actuated, but if the pawl is engaged with the notch 68, the pillar is lowered.
