Abstract

209,267. Heyden, W. Dec. 8, 1922. Jacks.-In a ratchet jack the pawls 1 are mounted on a rocker 5 pivoted at 10 and are normally maintained in engagement with the racks by springs, weights, &c. but are disengaged when projections on them come into contact with the parts 9<A>, 9<B> of a spring 9 mounted in the rocker. The part 9<c> of the spring is engaged by a projection 12 on the inner end of the handle 6. By rotating the handle the position of the spring can be varied so that the pillar 4 will be raised or lowered. A clip 6<B> holds the handle in engagement with the rocker and stops 14 limit its movement.
