Abstract

162,490. King, C. F. L. March 17, 1920. Jacks. - In a ratchet jack, the lifting-pawl 7 and the retaining-pawl 9 are alternately disengaged from the rack 2 during lowering by trip mechanism comprising pivoted arms 12, 13, which are maintained in either of the positions shown by a spring 18. In the lifting position, Fig. 1, the parts 14, 15 of the arm 13 do not engage the studs 16, 17 on the pawls, but in the lowering position, Fig. 5, these parts engage and force the pawls out of engagement with the rack alternately.
