Abstract

170,512. Simpson, W. P. Dec. 2, 1920. Hooks, safety, and closed. -A lifting-hook 1 for use on cranes &c. has a forked keeper 3 which is kept closed by the weight of the load. The upper portion 2 of the hook is flattened and is accommodated bv the forked portion of the keeper, to which it is pivoted by a pin 4. The hook has a curved slot 5 with a slight recess at its lower end, registering with holes 6 in the keeper. Passing through the slot 5 and holes 6 is a link &c. 10, which engages in the recess and keeps the hook open when there is no load. The point of the keeper is grooved at 8 to house the raised portion 7 on the point of the hook.
