Abstract

254,197. Everstam, J. G. Dec. 23, 1925. Jacks. -A ratchet jack is provided with two closely set lifting pawls acting alternately so that the load is raised on both the up and down movements of the operating handle. The operating handle engages in a socket 8 on a bifurcated lever 9 mounted on a pivot 10 in the casing 1. The pawls 6, 7 have rounded ends engaging with correspondingly rounded recesses between the teeth 5 on the lifting pillar 2 and are mounted on closely set pivots 11, 12 on opposite sides of the pivot 10. The pawls carry lateral projections 13, 14, pressed by springs 19 and adapted to engage a shoulder 15 on a trip lever 16 mounted on the pivot 10 and provided with a setting arm 18. To raise the load, the trip lever is put in its inoperative position, the lifting pillar being then raised on each reciprocation of the operating handle. To lower the load, the shoulder on the trip lever is raised so that the pawls are alternately freed from the teeth as the lifting pillar moves downwards.
