Abstract

Jacks.- A ratchet jack of the frictional grip type has the crutch pillar 1 encircled by a lifting pawl 3 and a holding pawl 5, the lifting pawl being actuated by a lever operated cam 4 acting on one side of the pawl and the holding pawl being pivotally mounted at one side 5a in the frame and disengageable at the other side by a lever 5<b>. The pawls are off-set so that the line joining the gripping points 5<c>, 5<d> is approximately perpendicular to the crutch pillar.
