Abstract

143,460. McGeorge, C. F. Sept. 22, 1919. Jacks.-Relates to a ratchet wheel and cam operated lifting-jack for motor-cars &c. The pillar 15 is slidably mounted in a frame 2 which is slidably mounted in the base. The jack is roughly adjusted by hand to the required height and secured by a pin 4 engaging holes in the frame and base. The lifting is effected by a cam 7 mounted in the frame and engaging a roller 16 on the pillar. The handle 18 has a slotted end and is loosely mounted on the cam-shaft 6 and engages successively teeth 10 on the ratchet wheel 8 so as to rotate the cam and raise the jack, the ratchet wheel being held by a pawl 12. The pawl is provided with an extension 13 adapted to be engaged by a projection 19 on the handle when the handle is reversed so as to release the pawl and allow the load to be lowered. In a modification, a rocking plate on the cam-shaft has a notch adapted to release the pawl when the handle is operated for lowering.
