Jacks.-A lever lifting-jack has an operating- lever 9 pivoted to the sliding sleeve 4 and to a thrust-bar 11 mounted on the casing. A telescopic or, as shown, a ratchet handle 15 is engaged with the end of the lever and depressed to raise the load. By pressing the lever beyond the pivotal support of the thrust-bar, the raised load is self-sustained, or it may be held by a spring- pressed pawl 19 engaging a notch in the sleeve. The crutch-rod 5 is screwed for preliminary engagement with the load.
