Abstract

255,674. Bradbury, L. Sept. 11, 1925. Jacks. -A lifting-jack of the kind having an extended lift and in which the load is supported by pawl and rack mechanism, has an operating handle 4 mounted on a pivot 5 on the base 1 and having an extension provided with a pivot 6 carrying the pillar 7. The pillar has a slot 21 which guides a transverse pin 20 on a sleeve 9<1> sliding in the pillar and carrying the crutch 8 which is adjustable therein in the usual way. The transverse pin 20 is connected by links 19 to links 14 mounted on pivots 15 on the base and having a pivotal connection 16 to the pillar. The lower end of the pillar has a ratchet and pawl connection 12 with the base. In operation, the lever 4 is depressed so that the pillar 7 is raised and so raises the floating fulcrum 16, which through the mechanical advantage of the links 14 gives an additional lift to the sleeve 9<1> and crutch 8. The arrangement of the linkages and ratchet mechanism may be varied.
