Abstract

265,575. Walter, J. Feb. 8, 1926, [Convention date]. Jacks. -k rail lifting-jack of the kind having a toothed sector mounted on a base-plate and carrying a pivoted lifting lever, has ratchet and pinion mechanism mounted on the lever which serves for operating the jack and for effecting a quick lowering of the load. The base-plate P is formed with a toothed sector B which is straddled by a bifurcated lifting lever H mounted on a pivot b at one end of the sector and adapted to engage at its other end under the rail R. The hand-lever A is mounted on a bearing A<1> in the lifting lever, the bearing having fixed therein a pinion T engaging the toothed sector and carrying a ratchet wheel Sp. A pawl Kb is pivoted to the hand-lever and adapted to engage the ratchet wheel, a supporting pawl Ko being mounted on the sector. To raise the load, the hand-lever is rocked to rotate the ratchet wheel and pinion, which climbs up the side of the toothed sector. To lower the load, the pawl Kb is turned to the inoperative position to free it from the ratchet wheel and a stop Al so that a projection N on the hand-lever disengages the supporting pawl Ko and the load descends.
