Jacks. -A lifting-jack of the kind in which the lifting pillar is operated by screw and nut mechanism actuated by a hand-lever through ratchet and pawl mechanism, is provided with pawl reversing mechanism comprising a pivoted pawl controlling arm which is rocked by the rotation of the hand-lever to reverse the pawl action. The axis of the ratchet wheel a carries a rocking plate p provided with apertured lugs d with which one end of the hand-lever c engages. The lever has a pin k engaging a slot l in a pawl controlling arm g pivoted on the plate b and provided with extensions h adapted to engage lugs i on the pawls f. By rotating the hand-lever one or other pawl can be thrown out of action as required. Specifications 282,556 and 282,557 are referred to.
