Abstract

302,442. Hewett, E. W. Oct. 12, 1927. Jacks. - A ratchet jack has interengaging means on the lifting and retaining pawls for releasing them from the rack. The operating handle 6 is mounted on a pivot 7 in the casing 2 and has a spring-pressed lifting pawl 8 engageable with the rack 5 on the crutch 3 for raising the load. The retaining pawl 14 is spring-pressed and slides in grooves in the casing and is provided with a handle 16. By means of the handle the retaining pawl can be released from the rack and by means of an extension 13 on the lifting pawl which engages a slot in the retaining pawl, the lifting pawl is also released and the crutch descends. The extension arm 13 may be used as a handle and a pedal may be provided for effecting the release. Specification 289,144, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], is referred to.
