To load a vehicle 31, Fig. 1, e.g. with animala, a loading pen 14 is released by means of a handle 27 and swung down on pivoted lines 16 against the resistance of springs 17. Telescopic members 20, 21, provided with ratchet and pawl means, hold the open -in the lowered position. After loading, the pen is released and the springs 17 lift it to the raised position shown. Fig. 7 shows a second embodiment in which the springs 17<SP>1</SP> and release mechanism are differently arranged.
