Jacks. - To provide additional support to the lifting pillar of a jack when in the extended position, stays or struts are provided which interconnect the lifting pillar and the body. The lifting pillar b is operated by a screw c and ratchet mechanism f and has a lug or lugs p at or about its centre adapted to engage a collar l which is slidable on the pillar and has depending stays or struts k extending into the casing a. In operation, when the lifting pillar has been raised to half its maximum height, the lugs engage the collar and lift the stays, thus giving additional rigidity to the jack during its further extension.
