Abstract

Jacks.-In a ratchet jack, the pawls 5, 4 are connected by helical springs 13, 14 to bellcrank levers 11, 12 mounted on the casing 8 and connected by a spring C. A thin but relatively wide member 15 is rotatably mounted on the actuating-lever 6 and is held by a spring 17 in the position shown when the jack is used for lowering, or with the member 15 in an horizontal plane when raising a load. In this latter position the member 15 does not come into contact with the levers 11 ,12. An arm 16 is provided for rotating the member 15, and finger pieces 11<x>, 12<x> are formed on the ends of the levers 11, 12 to facilitate rocking the levers to withdraw both pawls when it is desired to lower the lifting pillar 3 rapidly. The standard 2 comprises channelirons 2a, 2<b>, Fig. 5, riveted together.
