Abstract

158,564. Schmidt'sche Heissdampf- Ges. Jan 26, 1920, [Convention date]. Engines working on special systems or cycles; exhaust, treating.-A reciprocating or rotary steam-engine is worked between an initial pressure of 28 atmospheres and upwards and a backpressure above atmospheric up to 13 atmospheres. Under such conditions the steam consumption per unit of energy varies solely with the increase of the back pressure, and the ratio becomes gradually less as the steam pressures increase. The exhaust from the engine A, which exhaust is used for heating purposes, is discharged into a receiver B, the outlet from which is controlled by a throttle-valve C actuated by a centrifugal governor. The fluid supply to the motor is controlled by a spring-pressed piston G subject to the pressure in the heating main. A reducing- valve communicating with the main-fluid supply is shown at E.
